The International Unit (IU) is a unit of measurement used to measure the biological activity of vitamin D, regardless of the source or chemical form of the vitamin. One IU of vitamin D corresponds to 0.025 µg of vitamin D3. A dosage of 2000 IU is recommended because it represents an effective amount to support vitamin D levels in the body. A dosage of 2000 IU of vitamin D3 is often considered appropriate because it provides a sufficient amount to maintain optimal vitamin D levels in the blood without the risk of overdose.
